The Covidien Kendall Polysorb™ Coated Synthetic Absorbable Sutures are sterile, braided, synthetic sutures indicated for use in soft tissue approximation or ligation and ophthalmic surgery, but not in cardiovascular or neural tissue. The sutures are absorbable and should not be used where extended approximation of tissue is required.
Polysorb™ Sutures are composed of Lactomer™ glycolide/lactide copolymer, a form of synthetic polyester made up of glycolide and lactide, derived from glycolic and lactic acids. Each suture is coated with a mixture of caprolactone/glycolide copolymer and calcium stearoyl lactylate. This process enhances their characteristics and performance. These sutures exhibit superior strength especially during the critical wound healing period, excellent knot security, and ease of handling.
Polysorb™ Sutures elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue. Afterwards, there is progressive loss of tensile strength followed by eventual absorption, through hydrolysis.
Polysorb™ Sutures feature reverse cutting needles in C-13, 3/8 Circle. Size is 4-0 and thread length is 30 inches, in Violet color.
